In this digital age, being proficient at programming from an early age is only a benefit. Recognising
the need to encourage a MAKER MINDSET, to develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills in our children, we’ve partnered with Makeblock and created a roadmap of our S.T.E.A.M based Creative Coding with mBot course.
The mBot is a great introduction to enjoy the hands-on experience about programming, electronics and robotics. Built around the Arduino open-source platform with LED lights, motors, sensors, sound and bluetooth capabilities, it is designed to be tinkered with. Kids begin with graphical programming on Apps or Makeblocks' Scratch-based program (M.I.T Media Lab) called mBlock. This fun combination of hardware & software learning inducts kids easily to the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
After an initial assessment, we tailor our lesson plans for more personalised learning to match a students’ pace and needs.
What to bring?
Lots of enthusiasm and an iPad/Laptop (depending age & course) with the mBlock app installed.
Learning Path roadmap:
Level 1 - Explorers
Our young engineers will begin learning about the Makeblock hardware while building their own mBot. Then explore coding with the software to make the mBot come to life. Students will:
Understand the basics of sequences & algorithms
Program mBot wirelessly and realise their mbot’s bluetooth capabilities
Learn the uses of some of its sensors such as Light & Ultrasonic sensor
Computer programming concepts like conditionals, loops & functions - all through fun & simple programming Maker projects
